Mini-overview of the DJI Mavic Pro quadcopter

Over the past couple of years, there has been a trend in the drone industry to develop increasingly compact models. Chinese DJI followed the rest of the manufacturers. Its latest model, the Mavic Pro, is almost half the size of the flagship Phantom 4.

One thing can be said about the design of the Mavic Pro - it is quite atypical for the DJI company and unambiguously ingenious. The first thing to note is that the quadcopter has a foldable design. Its folded dimensions are only 83 x 83 x 198 mm. The copter is much smaller than its predecessor. What can I say - it's even smaller than the Phantom 4 remote control.

As for the configuration, DJI gave the opportunity to choose from three possible options:

  • Standard. Consists of the Mavic Pro copter itself (, a protective cap for the camera, a remote control with a compartment for a smartphone, a battery, a charger with two USB inputs and a couple of additional propellers;
  • The basic version provides everything the same as the standard one, except for the control panel (it comes from a smartphone after installing the application);
  • The complete kit adds two more additional USB cords - for parallel charging of the quadcopter and equipment, as well as a backpack and car charger.

The aircraft has a removable battery and no longer requires a lot of assembly. It is not even necessary to straighten the propellers. The Mavic Pro weighs 750 grams, which is almost half the weight of its predecessor, the Phantom 4, which weighs 1300 grams. The remote control has become smaller and now resembles a game console to which a smartphone is attached. The new drone is easy to transport and fits in any backpack.

The control of the DJI Mavic Pro in open areas was a pleasant surprise. One of the main advantages of a quadcopter is its flight range. Even when transmitting video broadcasts with a resolution of 1080p, the distance from the operator is seven kilometers, a record for the company. If you use the basic version (Wi-Fi), then the ability to sustain video transmission will be about 100 meters.

The DJI Mavic Pro has an additional gesture control function. He can follow the subject and photograph it while shooting.

The impact resistance has improved. A multitude of sensors allows the quadcopter to navigate in space, land on its own in the dark and maneuver between various obstacles.

Green LED indicators located on top of the aircraft will alert you to battery activation and status. According to the manufacturer, one full charge of the built-in battery will provide 27 minutes of operation of the copter, when recording video in 1080p.

The ascent speed of the copter is 5 m / s, the rate of descent is 3 m / s. The maximum flight speed is 65 km / h in sport mode, and the maximum flight altitude of the DJI Mavic Pro is up to 5000 meters. It is in no way inferior to its predecessor.

Let's talk about the camera itself. The Mavic Pro has it built-in and, despite its small size, is equipped with optical electronic stabilization, implemented in a special miniature gimbal. The camera is capable of recording 4K video at a recording rate of 30 frames per second and shooting 12-megapixel photos. For even better quality, it is necessary to remove the protective cap, as it is designed to protect the camera.

In terms of convenience, the Mavic Pro is significantly ahead of earlier DJI drones. Now, when choosing which copter to buy, an excellent picture and dimensions or rather good graphics quality and compactness fall on the scales.
