Promising Russian tank "dressed" in new armor

The newest Russian tank "Armata" is an alloy of the latest developments of the domestic defense industry. Among them is unique armor based on 44S-sv-Sh steel, developed by metallurgical engineers of the Volgograd plant "Krasny Oktyabr" by order of "Uralvagonzavod".

It combines plasticity with increased hardness, which allowed the designers of the new tank to reduce the thickness of the armor by 15% and, of course, the total weight of the vehicle's armored structures. At the same time, its security will noticeably increase. Compared to the T-90 tank currently in service with the Russian Army, the Armata will be several tons heavier.

The Victory Parade on Red Square in 2015 was chosen as the venue for the presentation of the newest production tank. At the same time, it is planned to start its serial production. The Armata will differ from its legendary predecessors, the T-72 and T-90, with an uninhabited turret, an unusual chassis design and a more powerful engine. Particularly noteworthy is the 2A82 cannon (col. 125 mm), which surpasses the best NATO counterparts in its characteristics by almost 1, 2 times, while being 60 cm shorter.
