A non-lethal sonic weapon, LIPE, has been created, which shoots very "loud" plasma balls.
The LIPE system works by "firing" high-energy pulses from a nanosecond laser at a specific target. These pulses are harmless enough to those around them, but when struck, they create what can be described as a "ball of blue plasma." Having created such a plasma ball, the system continues to shoot laser pulses at it, which causes the plasma to expand sharply, while making a very loud sound. In the light of day, the plasma ball is practically invisible and to a person who experiences the effect of its sound, it will seem that this sound "comes from nowhere."
