Pilos Agate - work of art, ahead of time

Greek civilization left behind many traces, which still find and explore lovers of history and archeology from around the world. Decent attention artifacts can be found in almost any Greek at least any ancient settlement, and the city of Pilos in the south-west of the country is no exception.

On its excavations, for example, the most preserved palace of the period of the Mycenaean civilization and many unique items of that time were found.

It's interesting: Mycken civilization, also called Ahasey Greece, covers the time from 16 to 11th century BC. The flourishing of the city of Pyos is required for these times. The Mycenaan period was changed by several centuries of decline, called the dark centuries of Greek culture later, when the invasion of the Dorian tribes began from north.

One of the main attractions of the archaeological pylos is the disposal of a notable warrior living in the city. The tomb dated to the 15th century BC, and in addition to the numerous jewelry and weapons, apparently belonging to the warrior, there was a very interesting and amazing artifact there.

We are talking about a stone agate 3, 4 cm, on which images of three warriors are applied: one of them is defeated, and two others are desperately fighting. Perhaps it was used to decorate clothes or he was simply kept at home as a valuable work of art.

In this find, everything is surprising: an unusually accurate drawing of muscles, a lot of small parts with a lines of lines less than 1 mm, a rather high level of graphics even for our time. Below you can see images obtained when studying agate from pylos with a photomicroscope.

How could the artisan make a similar thing more than three and a half millennia ago? The subtleties of the lines on the agate are striking imagination - they simply could not be distinguished to the naked eye. Is there really a Greek civilization in those days so much that could, for example, use some increasing images of the instruments, like a magnifying glass? Such works of art in the future will appear only after 15 centuries - during the heyday of the Roman Empire.

And here you should return to the fall of the Mycenaean civilization, the sunset of the culture and science of which occurred after the invasion of foreign invaders. It is not by chance that the Greeks who lived a thousand years later in the classical period, considered the era of the Mycena Civilization by the legendary time. Among them were stories about the amazing technologies used at the time, such as separate pipes for the supply of cold and hot water or a developed sewer network. Perhaps that distant civilization really reached a large scientific and technological progress, and we only have to know about it?
